Read this and smile.
At a Special Olympics event, nine runners took off in the 100-yard dash. The leader in the race fell while he was running and skinned his knee. Then an amazing sight took place. All the other kids ran past the young man who had been out in front, but when they heard him crying, they all stopped and went back to comfort him. One of the little girls kissed his knee to make it feel better. After they helped him up, they all hooked arms. The children finished the race as one - arms linked together.
The crowd gave them a standing ovation, cheering and crying for these incredibly giving kids. Perhaps in those special moments, those kids taught us all a lesson about what it is to love one another and truly be a friend.
What can you do today to show genuine love and support to someone else?

Shall I keep him?!?
I DO feel he makes the journey better. We laugh together, mourn together and have compatible views on most subjects (and we'll each argue till we lose our voices on those other topics!) We comfort each other when there is need and instigate when one of us needs some good old-fashioned motivation.
I think I'll keep him another year, at least. After all, it's taken decades to break him in!!
Oh yeah, did I mention he's VINTAGE ? I think VINTAGE is really cool !!

I miss my Mom.
I wonder if she knows what a wonderful legacy she has left behind. Does she know what fantastic Moms her granddaughters have become? Does she realize she is a part of her great-grandchildren's lives through pictures and family stories told every time we gather? (She did have the pleasure of meeting her first great-grandchild while she was still with us.)
Does she know one of her granddaughters constantly throws out to her own children those "Mom-isms" she oft quoted to us as kids? It makes me smile each time I hear her tell one of her children that "You'll eat a ton of dirt in your lifetime" or "It'll get better before you get married." In fact, the latter one has evolved into a saying by her future great-grandson-in-law to "We'll see you again before the wedding!" (No date is set and is probably still a year or so down the road.) This is said even when we only expect a few hours to pass between sightings.
She fostered creativity, both through cooking and artwork, in all of us and that talent is apparent in her great-grandchildren, too. Has she seen and appreciated N's great skill at sketching and photography or J's ability in the kitchen? (And yes, that "cooking" is often "creative"!) Does she know D cultivates beautiful lilacs and forsythia, two of her all time favorites? (None of us have managed Mom's skill at raising roses.)
Does she know we all still use her recipes and, in some cases, the special dish that was always used for that particular item? So, as I pull out one of Mom's recipes today for our "special meal," she'll be in my thoughts and I'll be sending silent kisses and hugs her way.
Love ya', Mom, and always will!! (Just in case your reading this.)

"Isn't young love grand?"
She bravely trucked into the classroom without a glance back that first day. Oh, don't get me wrong. There were a few tears of relief when Mommy picked her up at the end of the day. She claimed to enjoy it but stated "One day is enough!"
There were a few tears the second morning but she persevered. The teacher later related one little boy cried pitifully for his Mommy. Our little gal then began to cry in sympathy, explaining that, "It just makes me so sad because he's so upset." Again, she enjoyed the day but did not intend to go back.
On Friday, the third day, her lip trembled a bit but she needed to stay strong for her new buddy.
After Sunday dinner, I asked about her new friend. Apparently, he has "cute hair" and "he's 7 tall, not 5." (We later found the translation of this to mean he's as tall as the 7-year-olds, not short like the other 5-year-olds.) Most importantly, she confided that "Sometimes when I smile at him, he smiles back and I just LOVE him!!"
Well, they've now had a play date, and...
she "loves him more!!!"
I remember my first crush. I was in first grade and his name was Robert! Do you remember yours ?

Love In His Eyes
It didn’t have the exact image I thought it would. Oh yeah, it appeared to be male, too.
He took me by surprise. He was about 65 and a bit weathered looking. He definitely looked a little tired. Of course, it was almost midnight. He had a plastic cup of beer in one hand and a Marlboro in the other. He spoke in plain, straight forward language and he didn’t care who knew he loved his wife with all he’s got - and then some. While he chatted, it dawned on me, he was beautiful. I hope she knows how he feels. What’s more, I hope she appreciates what she’s got.
Seriously, we were at our local casino and I’d reached my limit for the night and was somewhat tired. My man begged for another half hour to play and I advised I’d be waiting in the smoking lounge. I don’t smoke but there are fairly comfortable seats and tables there and you don’t need to be playing a slot just to sit and kill time in the lounge.
Since it was late, there weren’t many of us killing time there. Another woman about my age and this gentleman were the only folks there when I entered. It’s funny, we each staked out a seat in opposite corners but it is a small area and conversation began easily among us. The other lady soon finished her smoke and reentered the casino. My ale friend and I were left to chat among ourselves.
Like me, he was waiting for his spouse. He’d lost all he wanted but did not want to rush her as she was “having a good time.” He said he loves to see her enjoy herself and she really does deserve a good evening out as she’s “a good woman.” He went on to describe how hard she works and all she does for the family without complaint. While he has already retired, she’s still going off to a job each day. He claims to keep the house tidy and says he does a little cooking, too. She has recently lost a fair amount of weight and he has dutifully helped by keeping her supplied with the foods she needed for her diet. Though he loved her in her larger form, he is truly proud of her accomplishment in taking off the weight. (She’s lost about 45 pounds.)
His pride glowed as he spoke of her. He described her as a great beauty and exclaimed he wasn’t sure what he’d ever done to deserve her. I was beginning to picture a youthful, perky “trophy wife.” Then, he boasted they were quickly approaching their 44th anniversary and he wished he’d hit the lottery so he could give her the country mansion she deserved. Alas, he figured they’d have to make due with a “nice dinner out.”
About that time, his “fine lady” came out to check on him. She was a cheerful lady with a neat appearance and a twinkle in her eye. She admitted she’d gone through her allotted cash and at that point would have to call it a night. He admitted to having a few more bucks stashed in a pocket and gave it to her to go back and play with. She gave him a quick peck on the cheek and hurried back to the machines. He smiled proudly and said, “See what I mean?”
You know, I did see it.
My husband appeared about that time and a we rose to go, my new friend lit another cigarette and mused he should have held back enough money for another beer but then said, “She’s enjoying it more than I would.”
I felt good having had such a chat and seen such a happy pair. I think it made me appreciate my man a little more, too. I hope we’re that happy when we reach 44 years together. As we headed for our car, I reached over and held his hand. I think we were happy. I know I love him.
May we all see that type of love in our mate's eyes.

Ain't love grand ?
Love is in the air but there's a lot of smog out there, too!
In addition to all those chocolates, roses, cookies, fudge, etc., maybe we could all use a little "couple advice" . What better opportunity than Valentine's Day ?
I recently came across this excerpt from an actual wedding ceremony. These are the words of the pastor to the couple:
"[Mary] look at [John], [John] look at [Mary]; Neither of you is marrying Mr. or Mrs. Right. Keep that in perspective, work out your differences, and all will be well."
Another minister cautions all couples, "Marriage is not easy." He then follows it with a few tips for a happy relationship. I recently found his "scared straight marriage speech" on line. It was, well, quite basic. I preferred the interesting advice given in the many comments from readers. Check some of these out:
1. Watching television does not count as "spending time together."
2. Never, ever, introduce your current spouse as "my first wife" or "my first husband." Your spouse will not think it is funny.
3. Don't ever tell another person in the presence of your spouse that you are training him or her.
4. In a "discussion" , don't EVER say, "I'm gonna break this down to your level." It just causes all kinds of things to get broken.
5. "I'm sorry" should not REALLY mean, "I'm sorry...until I do it again."
And these are specifically for my male readers (Ladies, you may want to show them to your man.) :
6. Don't ever call any pair of jeans your wife is wearing a "really nice pair of mom jeans."
7. Never ask your wife if she is PMSing.
8. Don't make pig noises while your wife is eating. It's NOT funny. EVER.
-----------
I'm not sure where I found this tidbit, but it does give one food for thought:
Think about what your spouse is living with. How easy would it be to be YOUR spouse? Now, treat them accordingly.
----------
So, go out there and have a great Valentine's Day!!!!

Hearts and Smiles to Y'all !!!
---------------
Since I don’t always get a chance to chat with you on the weekends, I thought I’d make a point of wishing you a Happy Valentine’s Day today. I hope you have big plans - time spent with your loved ones, special treats, lots of fun. Don’t forget to share lots of hugs, cuddles and smiles.
---------------
Here’s some more love laughs and smiles I found to share:
*Sales ad at a store: “You are my one and only” Valentine’s cards, now on sale 4 for $5.” -- Unknown
*”I wanted to make it really special on Valentine’s Day, so I tied my boyfriend up. And for three solid hours I watched whatever I wanted on TV.” -- Tracy Smith
*I don’t understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine’s Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon. -- Author Unknown
*”Before I met my husband, I’d never fallen in love. I’d stepped in it a few times.” -- Rita Rudner
*Love is an ocean of emotions entirely surrounded by expenses. -- Thomas Robert Dewar
And my personal favorite:
*Love is the thing that enables a woman to sing while she mops up the floor after her husband has walked across it in his barn boots. -- A Hoosier Farmer
And a serious thought or two on the subject:
*Love may not make the world go round, but I must admit that it makes the ride worthwhile. -- Sean Connery
*All you need is love. -- John Lennon
